How Your Hair Color Influences Your Perfume’s Scent
It’s an interesting, yet little known, fact that your hair color can influence the way your favorite perfume performs on your body. No, we’re not talking about the color that you dye your hair. We’re talking about your natural hair color.
Black, red, brunette or blond, hair color is the direct result of human genes, genes that also determine our skin type. And, skin type influences how long perfume lasts. That means, although a perfume may seem to last forever on a friend, it might not last so long on you, and vice-versa.
Dark-haired beauties tend to have darkest skin due to a higher amount of melanin in their bodies. Since skin with a higher concentration of melanin tends to produce more oil, musk and woody perfumes used by black-haired individuals or brunettes will last longer by clinging to this natural oil.
Although redheads may have more melanin in their genes than blondes, their skin is usually quite fair and sensitive. So, appropriate perfumes for these beauties are fruity and citrus. Blonde beauties also have fair skin, but because their skin tends to easily dry, they would do well with long lasting floral and spice perfumes.
If you’re a blond or redhead, there are a few actions that you can take to encourage your perfume fragrances last longer. One of these activities is to layer yourself with a several different products of a perfume. Most fragrances are available as a perfume gift set of scented creams, soaps, gels, powders, and oils. If you’re a person with fair or dry skin, you could shower with a scented soap or gel, moisturize with a scented cream or lotion, and then follow up with a few dabs, pumps, or sprays of concentrated perfume.
In the summer of course, you may prefer to replace your scented moisturizer with a scented powder. These combinations should last at least three hours or more. You may need to experiment with different combinations of these perfume products to come up with one that satisfies you and works best with your metabolism.
Another way to make the fragrance last longer is to apply it to pulse points. Do not neglect all parts of the body such as on the wrists, behind the ears, behind the knees, between the breasts, and on each side of the neck right under the chin.
The pulse points of a body are warmer and tend to intensify the scent of the perfume. And, of course, you can always reapply the later on in the day. If you prefer to maintain the fragrance throughout the day, you may need to reapply your cologne or perfume once or twice a day.
Regardless of your hair color, one thing that you never want to do is to perfume your locks! Scalp oil is different from skin oil and may be thicker than the oil on your skin. This amount of oil can strengthen the scent of scent to the point where it’s a bit overwhelming. In addition, perfume contains alcohol, alcohol that can strip your hair of its natural oils and dry it.
